16th May 2012 - VH-OJT Operates QF107/QF108 New York JFK Tag.

No QF11 Sydney - Los Angeles flight was scheduled today and as a result QF107 Sydney - Los Angeles was operated by Airbus A380 VH-OQI. The Los Angeles - New York sector was therefore operated by Boeing 747-438 VH-OJT which had arrived into Los Angeles as QF15 from Brisbane. This is the first time since Boeing 747-400s took over the Los Angeles - New York JFK tag that the Brisbane aircraft has operated the service.

13th May 2012 - VH-VXS QF1064 Lightning Strike.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VXS operating QF1064 Perth - Kalgoorlie was on approach to Kalgoorlie when the aircraft encountered a lightning strike. The aircraft returned to Perth where QANTAS have a maintenance base. A replacement flight and the return QF1065 were then operated by sister VH-VZM.

4th May 2012 - Further A380 Deferrals.

QANTAS today announced that the two A380s scheduled for delivery in 2013 have been deferred until the 2016/2017 financial year, representing a capital saving of A$400 million.

In the same announcement it was made clear that resources will be concentrated on the Domestic market as the QANTAS group defends its 65% market share against Virgin Australia and the slowly re-emerging Tiger Airways. To that end Boeing 747-400s will be reinstated later on the Sydney - Perth route and further A330-300s will be scheduled on the Melbourne - Perth route.

Airbus A330-300 VH-QPC operated today’s final QF51/QF52 Singapore - Mumbai rotation. As a result of this flight disappearing from the timetable all QF81/QF82 Adelaide - Singapore flights will now route to Sydney - Adelaide - Singapore.

3rd May 2012 - VH-OJI QF5 Sydney Return.

Boeing 747-438 VH-OJI operating QF5 Sydney - Singapore - Frankfurt was around two hours into the flight when it turned and headed back to Sydney due a failure of the cabin lighting. The flight departed again just prior to curfew operated by sister VH-OJJ.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBH operated today’s QF81 Sydney - Adelaide - Singapore service. This is the first recorded appearance of an A330-200 on this service.

QANTASLink Boeing 717-200 VH-NXJ arrived in Adelaide from Darwin today wearing registration N902ME having made an eight stop three day delivery flight from Miami.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBG operated today’s QF77/QF78 Perth - Singapore rotation. With International configuration A330-200s not now needed for the Auckland - Los Angeles service this may become a more frequent occurrence.

7th May 2012 - VH-EBL Operates QF41/QF42.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBL operated today’s QF41/QF42 Sydney - Jakarta rotation. Whilst not the first appearance on an A330-200 on this service it is an indication of the future utilisation of the type following the QF25/QF26 closure.
