QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPG operating yesterday’s delayed QF80 Tokyo Narita – Melbourne diverted to Perth this evening. The flight was operating with minimal or no passengers after passengers were accommodated on last night’s services to Sydney and Brisbane and the diversion appears to have been following the cancellation of a scheduled additional Melbourne – Perth A330-200 service this evening. QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPA operating QF61 Brisbane – Tokyo Narita routed north west today as far as Brunei before turning north east for Tokyo Narita, thus taking over 11 hours for a flight which usually takes around 9 hours. This appears to be due to the aircraft having an issue making it non ETOPS compliant. As a result the flight arrived into Tokyo Narita just before night curfew and the return QF62 has been delayed overnight.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPA positioned Melbourne – Sydney as QF6005 this morning after arriving as QF36 from Singapore. The aircraft then operated QF129 Sydney – Shanghai Pudong.

New Font, New, New Roo for VH-QPJ.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPJ was revealed at a media event in Sydney this morning with an updated, 2016 version of the QANTAS livery. This features a new QANTAS font, QANTAS titles on the underside, a further redesign of the flying kangaroo tail logo with silver shading and no front legs, a silver band between the red tail and white fuselage and a small, retro roo beneath the cockpit windows.

The new, new roo and font will form the QANTAS brand image going forward from today.

Twelve mainline aircraft remain in QANTAS 1984 livery and these, along with VH-QPJ, will transition to the new 2016 scheme without appearing in the New Roo livery introduced in 2007.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPJ, which has been under maintenance at Victorville since 10th October, positioned Victorville – Kona – Sydney late tonight as QF6004. The aircraft is expected to be have been repainted from QANTAS 1984 however the unusual routing via Kona and the fact that the ferry flights are all under cover of darkness, and the fact that the aircraft will arrive into Sydney just in time for a press event announcing the first QANTAS Boeing 787-9 routes points to some sort of special livery.

Following the technical issue it encountered on 10th November, QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPD departed Jakarta this morning operating the delayed QF42 Jakarta – Sydney of 10th November.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPI operated the QF3/QF4 Sydney – Honolulu rotation today in place of the usual B767-300ER. This was a planned substitution with an A330-300 crew having already positioned to Honolulu to operate the return sector.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPH operated QF23 Sydney – Bangkok today, however the return QF24 has been delayed overnight. It is not clear whether this is due to a technical or crew issue.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPA positioned Sydney – Singapore this afternoon as QF6019 in order to operate QF6 Singapore – Sydney. An additional A330-300 was needed at Singapore following the cancellation of QF35 Melbourne – Singapore.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPE operated the QF5 Sydney – Singapore today. This is the first use of an A330-300 on this service which will slowly transition to this type.

Following its diversion to Melbourne last night whilst operating QF566 Perth – Sydney, QANTAS Airbus A330-300 VH-QPA continued Melbourne – Sydney this morning as QF8566.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPE Operates Hawaii Charter.

QANTAS Airbus A330-300 VH-QPE operated a Sydney – Auckland – Honolulu charter this afternoon as QF6032. The aircraft will then operate an additional Honolulu – Sydney service as QF84.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPH Returns from Shanghai.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPH, which has been out of service at Shanghai since 2 September, returned to Australia today operating a daytime Shanghai – Sydney flight as QF130D.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPH Operates Perth – Tokyo.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPH operated QF79 Perth – Tokyo Narita today in place of the usual International configuration Boeing 767-300ER. The flight operated via Hong Kong so as not to come under ETOPS rules. We understand that ETOPS Perth departures can only currently be operated by Boeing 767-300ERs.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPH QF42 Sydney Emergency.

QANTAS Airbus A330-300 VH-QPH QF42 Jakarta – Sydney (depart Jakarta 15th October) landed at Sydney with emergency services on stand-by due to smoke coming from the left hand engine. The aircraft landed safely but was towed onto the stand.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPF Missing Yacht Search Flight.

A330-300 VH-QPF was sent on a search mission from Perth for missing 16 year old round the world yachtswoman Abby Sunderland. The yacht was missing around 2,000 miles east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Perth has an A330-300 spare today as there is a QF67 service to Hong Kong at 22.15, therefore no scheduled services were affected. The yacht was successfully located and the QANTAS jet spent around two hours circling over the vessel to co-ordinate radio operations directing ships to the scene.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPA QF72 Control Emergency.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPA made an emergency landing at Learmonth whilst operating QF72 Singapore – Perth today. The aircraft had twice entered uncommanded pitch down manoeuvres at high altitude resulting in 12 people receiving severe injuries and a further 103 suffering minor injuries.
