QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS operated a 55 minute Sydney – Sydney scenic flight circuit early this afternoon as QF6620 carrying physically or intellectually disadvantaged children and their carers and organised by the Rotary Club.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJU Melbourne Rescue Mission.

Following the diversion of QF27 Sydney – Santiago de Chile to Melbourne yesterday evening, QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJU positioned Sydney – Melbourne as QF6020 early this afternoon in order to take over the diverted service, routing Melbourne – Santiago de Chile as QF27D. The aircraft then operated yesterday’s delayed QF28 Santiago de Chile – Sydney as QF28D.

QANTAS Boeing 747-48E VH-OEB operating QF27 Sydney – Santiago de Chile with a five hour delay was to the south-east of Tasmania this evening when it diverted to Melbourne due to a technical issue. The flight has been delayed overnight.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJT Departs Australia on Final Passenger Flight.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJT departed Brisbane this evening operating QF55 Brisbane – Los Angeles which will be its final passenger flight. The aircraft will be withdrawn from passenger service at Los Angeles. There is no QF56 Los Angeles – Brisbane scheduled today. The aircraft was in 58J/36W/270Y configuration and wore QANTAS New Roo livery on withdrawal.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJT Returns from Sydney Maintenance.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJT, which has been under maintenance at Sydney since 3rd September, returned to service this morning operating QF127 Sydney – Hong Kong. The aircraft is scheduled to be the next Boeing 747-400 to be withdrawn from the fleet and is believed to have had various components swapped out.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJU positioned Brisbane – Sydney as QF6016 this morning after arriving in the early hours as QF16D from Los Angeles. The aircraft then operated QF27 Sydney – Santiago de Chile.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJU operating QF16 Los Angeles – Brisbane (depart Los Angeles 26th December) was around 90 minutes into the flight in the early hours of this morning when it turned back to Los Angeles for a safe landing following a technical issue, believed to be a failed weather radar. After around fifteen hours on the ground the aircraft departed again early this evening operating as QF16D.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS, which arrived into Brisbane this morning as QF16 from Los Angeles this morning, positioned Brisbane – Sydney as QF6003 early this evening then operated QF25 Sydney – Tokyo Haneda.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJT QF64 Perth Diversion.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJT operating QF64 Johannesburg – Sydney (depart Johannesburg 7th November) diverted via Perth this morning, continuing to Sydney after around 90 minutes on the ground.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJM Departs Australia Into Withdrawal.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJM departed Sydney early this afternoon operating QF73 Sydney – San Francisco where the aircraft was withdrawn from service. The aircraft then positioned San Francisco – Mojave for storage. There was no QF74 San Francisco – Sydney scheduled today. This reduces the total Boeing 747-400/400ER fleet to ten aircraft and the Boeing 747-400 fleet to four aircraft.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJS Brisbane Technical Issue.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS arrived into Brisbane this morning as QF16 from Los Angeles (depart Los Angeles 21st July), however its scheduled return to Los Angeles as QF15 was cancelled due to a technical issue.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OEB Auckland Rotation and Positioning Flight.

QANTAS Boeing 747-48E VH-OEB operated the QF141/QF144 Sydney – Auckland rotation this morning in place of the usual Boeing 737-800. The aircraft then positioned Sydney – Brisbane as QF6015 late this afternoon in order to operate the delayed QF15 Brisbane – Los Angeles as QF15D.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OEB Returns from Sydney Maintenance.

QANTAS Boeing 747-48E VH-OEB, which has been under maintenance at Sydney since 22nd April, returned to service this afternoon operating QF27 Sydney – Santiago de Chile. The First Class cabin, normally used as a Business Class cabin for high tier frequent flyers, has had its seats refreshed in charcoal grey and black.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJT New York JFK Delay and Cancellation.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJT operated today’s QF11 Los Angeles – New York JFK sector this afternoon with a five hour delay causing the cancellation of today’s QF12 New York JFK – Los Angeles sector. The aircraft positioned New York JFK – Los Angeles after midnight as QF6014.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJU QF29 Hong Kong Stick Shaker Incident.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJU operating QF29 Melbourne – Hong Kong was at 22,000 ft on the approach to Hong Kong when the aircraft was buffeted and the stick shaker activated. 15 passengers received minor injuries. The ATSB have rated this a serious incident and will be investigating.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJT Returns from New York JFK.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS arrived into Los Angeles this morning as QF15 from Brisbane, however it did not operate the QF11/QF12 Los Angeles – New York JFK rotation as scheduled. This appears to have been due to a technical issue which was rectified in time for the aircraft to operate QF16 Los Angeles – Brisbane this evening. The delayed New York rotation will operate tomorrow.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJM operating QF74 San Francisco – Sydney (depart San Francisco 28th September), which had already diverted via Honolulu yesterday due to a medical emergency, diverted via Brisbane this morning as the original crew did not have sufficient hours to reach Sydney.

Following the technical Boeing 747-400 technical issue at Johannesburg on 4th January, Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS operating QF63 Sydney – Johannesburg  operated Sydney – Perth – Johannesburg today carrying a fifth engine on the V-Pod. The aircraft then returned as QF64, however this was the delayed QF64 of 4th January.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS operated today’s QF73 Sydney – San Francisco, then following the B747-400ER technical issue at San Francisco yesterday it turned around to operate yesterday’s delayed QF74 San Francisco – Sydney as QF74D.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJI positioned Sydney – Brisbane as QF6031 this afternoon in order to operate a Brisbane – Darwin – Al Minhad Air Base charter for the RAAF using callsign ASY11.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS operated QF11 Sydney – Los Angeles today as a knock on effect of the A380 technical issue at Los Angeles on 10th April.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OEB Operates QF11/QF96.

QANTAS Boeing 747-48E VH-OEB operated QF11 Sydney – Los Angeles today in place of the scheduled A380. The aircraft then turned around to operate QF96 Los Angeles – Melbourne, marking a very rare appearance of a non-ER Boeing 747-400 on this route.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJI Operates QF11/QF12.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJI operated the QF11/QF12 Sydney – Los Angeles rotation today in place of the usual A380. The use of a Skybed Mk1 equipped aircraft on this service is noteworthy.

Withdrawn QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA HARS Preservation Official.

QANTAS officially confirmed that withdrawn Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA will be preserved at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) at Illawarra Regional Airport, Shellharbour. The official handover will take place in early March. The delivery flight from Sydney International Airport to Illawarra Regional Airport will be the first time a Boeing 747 has landed at the regional port. The Qantas pilots operating the final flight will undergo special simulator training to prepare for the delivery and the airline is working with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to finalise approvals for the special landing.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJS Returns from Sydney Repair.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJS, which has been out of service since arriving in Sydney as QF128 from Hong Kong on 1st January 2015, returned to service this morning operating QF63 Sydney – Johannesburg. The aircraft sustained ramp damage when struck by a catering truck at Sydney although we have been unable to establish precisely when. We suspect it was prior to the operation of QF75 Sydney – Vancouver on January 3rd.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJM Operates Return RAAF Charter.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJM operated a Minhad Air Force Base – Darwin – Brisbane – Sydney charter for the RAAF this morning using callsign ASY1 but internally coded as QF6032 in QANTAS systems.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJM Operates RAAF Military Charter.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJM operated a Sydney – Brisbane – Townsville – Darwin – Minhad Air Force Base (Dubai) charter for the RAAF this afternoon. The flight used callsign ASY1 but appears to have been internally coded as QF6031 in QANTAS systems.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA Tokyo Narita Flight Switch.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA arrived into Tokyo Narita as QF21 from Sydney (depart Sydney 20th December) this morning, however following the B747-400 technical issue at Tokyo Narita yesterday, it returned to Sydney this evening operating yesterday’s delayed QF22 Tokyo Narita – Sydney as QF22D.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA Soldiers On.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA arrived into Sydney as QF18 from Los Angeles (depart Los Angeles 18th December) this morning, however instead of being withdrawn from service the aircraft operated tonight’s QF21 Sydney – Tokyo Narita.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OEB Perth Rescue Mission.

Following the technical diversion of QF2 London Heathrow – Dubai – Sydney to Perth in the early hours of this morning, QANTAS Boeing 747-48E VH-OEB positioned Sydney – Perth as QF6001 early this afternoon in order to continue the diverted flight, operating Perth – Sydney as QF2.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA Stored at Los Angeles.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA operated QF107 Sydney – Los Angeles today. The aircraft had originally been scheduled to be withdrawn after this flight and position to Victorville for storage. However it is now expected to be preserved at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Facility at Wollongong. An additional QF18 Los Angeles – Sydney sector has now been scheduled for 18th December, and the aircraft is expected to operate that flight prior to withdrawal.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA Operates QF11.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA was pressed into service this afternoon operating QF11 Sydney – Los Angeles in place of the scheduled A380.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA Sydney Charity Flight.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA, which has been under maintenance at Sydney since arriving as QF64 from Johannesburg on 16th November, undertook a one hour Sydney – Sydney Pathfinders charity flight as QF6601 early this afternoon. The aircraft is not scheduled to operate any further services until December 7th when it will operate QF107 Sydney – Los Angeles and then be withdrawn. There is no QF12 Los Angeles – Sydney scheduled for that day.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJT operated the QF11/QF12 Sydney – Los Angeles rotation today in place of the scheduled A380 due to an additional A380 being tied up on the Sydney – Dallas-Fort Worth route following the technical return to Sydney on 3rd October. The use of this aircraft meant these flights operated with Three Class and not Four Class service.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJC operated today’s final QF5 Sydney – Singapore – Frankfurt service and will return tomorrow as the final QF6 from Frankfurt – Singapore, then operate as QF106 Singapore – Sydney. QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJI Loses Winglet at Johannesburg.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJI had its right winglet removed at Johannesburg before operating QF64 Johannesburg – Sydney today after it was damaged in an altercation with a blast fence. The winglets are not part of the minimum equipment list but fuel burn increases by 1-2% when one or both is missing.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJM Returns from Los Angeles.

Following the technical issue it encountered at Los Angeles on 19th November, QANTAS Boeing 747-438 departed in the early hours of this morning positioning Los Angeles – Sydney as QF6018.

The aircraft has been reconfigured to 58J/36W/270Y with A380 style product and completes the reconfiguration programme for 9 Boeing 747-400/400ERs.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJM positioned Sydney – Melbourne this afternoon as QF6017 in order to operate a Melbourne – Singapore – London Heathrow religious group charter as QF6051. The aircraft will then position London Heathrow – Frankfurt tomorrow to operate QF6 Frankfurt – Singapore – Sydney. As a result no QF5 Sydney – Singapore – Frankfurt service operated today.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJE QF64 Flat Tyre Sydney Landing.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJE operating QF64 Johannesburg – Sydney (depart Johannesburg) landed at Sydney this afternoon with emergency services on stand by due to a flat tyre indication on the left side main gear. The aircraft rolled out safely but tyre debris was left on the runway and some damage was sustained to the fuselage skin where it was struck by debris.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJM Positions to London Heathrow.

Boeing 747-438 VH-OJM positioned Frankfurt – London Heathrow as QF6006 this morning after operating QF5 into Frankfurt. The aircraft will later operate a religious charter. There is no QF6 Frankfurt – Singapore – Sydney scheduled this evening.

This is the first appearance of a QANTAS Boeing 747-400 at London Heathrow since VH-OJH operated the final QF2 London Heathrow – Bangkok – Sydney on 24th March 2012.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJC Continues from Darwin.

Following yesterday’s QF5 diversion to Darwin, QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJC was scheduled to continue to Singapore as QF5D and operate from Singapore – Frankfurt one hour ahead of today’s QF5 operated by Boeing 747-438ER VH-OEG. However departure from Darwin was delayed and the aircraft will overnight in Singapore before continuing to Frankfurt as a day flight tomorrow.

As a result VH-OEG will turn around in Frankfurt and operate today’s QF6 Frankfurt – Singapore – Sydney as a day flight tomorrow. VH-OJC will arrive in Frankfurt in time to operate tomorrow’s QF6 as scheduled.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJC operating QF5 Sydney – Singapore – Frankfurt was over the Drysdale River National Park south west of Darwin when it turned and headed direct for Darwin due to a burning smell in the cabin. Passengers have been accommodated overnight in Darwin.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJE arrived into Frankfurt as QF5 from Sydney and Singapore and was turned around to operate yesterday’s delayed QF6 Frankfurt – Singapore – Sydney. Sister VH-OJC remains out of service at Frankfurt and thus QF6 services will continue to be delayed overnight until the arrival of QF5 until it can be slotted back into service.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA, which has been out of service at Sydney since 23rd July, returned to service operating QF5 Sydney – Singapore –Frankfurt today having had its paint refreshed. It retains its existing livery and does not have a new ‘roo.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJI operating QF52 Singapore – Brisbane burst the #7 tyre on take off from Singapore and so dumped fuel and returned for a safe landing. The burst tyre caused extensive damage to the area around the left main undercarriage completely ripping off the undergear door and damaging hydraulic lines and the body to wing fairing.

Following its technical return to Perth and the delivery of a new engine yesterday, QANTAS  Boeing 747-438 VH-OJL departed Johannesburg tonight position to Sydney as QF6020 with the failed engine in the V-Pod position.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJO Revealed in Wallabies Livery.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJO which has been at the Sydney JetBase since 28th June was unveiled today with green and gold decals fitted supporting the Wallabies in the upcoming Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The decals cover most of the length of the fuselage which has had the normal QANTAS and Spirit of Australia titles removed. The kangaroo on the tail is also now carrying a green and gold rugby ball.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJQ operated QF73 Sydney – San Francisco carried a fifth engine on the V-pod today after the incident with VH-OJP. Due to the extra fuel burn the flight operated with minimal passengers and via Honolulu.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJP QF74 Uncontained Engine Failure.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJP operating QF74 San Francisco – Sydney suffered an uncontained failure of the #4 engine about 20 minutes into the flight. The crew shut down the engine and returned to San Francisco for a safe landing. The flight was subsequently cancelled.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA Noumea Rescue Mission.

Following the earlier diversion of A380 VH-OQC to Noumea, QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA operated Sydney – Noumea this morning to deliver a new crew for the A380 after the original crew ran out of hours. The use of VH-OJA was because it was due to fly to Avalon so a flight crew was on hand and the aircraft was ready to go once the A380 crew had assembled. VH-OJA continued to Avalon after arrival back in Sydney.

QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJL Returns from Avalon Storage.

After being in storage at Avalon since 2nd February 2010, QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJL today undertook a full flight test as QF6196 routing Avalon – Sydney via King’s Island. The test flight was successful and the aircraft returned to service today as QF1 Sydney – Bangkok – London Heathrow.

Having shut down the engine the crew took the plane to 10,000 feet to dump fuel over the Tasman and returned to Sydney 65 minutes after departure. 4 Class Kangaroo configured sister VH-OJP was brought in to perform the flight.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJK operating the Hong Kong – Melbourne sector of QF30 London Heathrow – Hong Kong – Melbourne (depart London 24th July) suffered an explosive decompression shortly after take off from Hong Kong this morning caused by an exploding oxygen cylinder in the front cargo hold. The aircraft diverted to Manila for a safe landing.
