31st August 2010 - 767-300 VH-OGP in Adelaide landing drama.

767-300 VH-OGP operating QF757 Darwin - Adelaide aborted the approach after the crew received conflicting indications as to whether the nose wheel was extended and locked. Passengers were prepared for a landing with no nose wheel but in the event the nose wheel was correctly down and locked.







30th August 2010 - 747-400 VH-OJP blows hole in engine near San Francisco.

Boeing 747-438 VH-OJP operating flight QF74 from San Francisco - Sydney suffered a failure of the #4 engine about 20 minutes into the flight. The crew shut down the engine and returned to San Francisco. It is expected that the engine will need to be replaced.

30th August 2010 - September 2010 A380 Frankfurt “C” Check.

There will be no QF32 LHR-SIN-SYD on 14th September with the scheduled A380 instead positioning Heathrow - Frankfurt for a “C” Check.

28th August 2010 - 747-400 VH-OJG 24hr QF32 delay.

QF32 of 28th August LHR-SIN-SYD with 747-400 VH-OJG was loaded at Heathrow when passengers were disembarked due to a technical problem with the aircraft. The flight eventually departed 24 hours late.

27th August 2010 - QANTAS 747-400s for China Operations.


QANTAS has applied for rights to operate an extra 166 seats per week between Australia and China in order to upgrade two Sydney - Shanghai services per week to Boeing 747-400 equipment.



20th August 2010 - Two Class Boeing 747s to receive Premium Economy.

Seat maps have begun to appear for flights in Spring 2011 showing the two class 747-400 fleet with a Premium Economy cabin fitted. This was mooted in 2008 but the re-fits were cancelled at that time. Economy rows 26-37 are removed and replaced by two full rows of eight Premium Economy seats in the forward mini-cabin, four pairs of two seats on the left hand side alongside the stairs and galley and a further two full rows of eight seats behind.







17th August 2010 - QANTAS 737-800 Port Hedland Diversion.


Flight QF1073 from Broome - Perth diverted into Port Hedland today due to an unspecified mechanical issue. Passengers were stuck in Port Hedland until a replacement aircraft arrvived from Perth some 11 hours later. We believe the offending aircraft to have been VH-VYJ.


12th August 2010 - QANTAS 2009 - 2010 Business Results Headlines.


Profit Before Tax A$377M. Revenue A$13.8 billion. Operating cashflow A$1.3 billion. Cash balance 3.7 billion. Statutory earnings of 4.9 cents per share.

11th August 2010 - A380 VH-OQC QF12 diverts to Noumea.


Due to bad weather affecting Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns QF12 (9th August departure from Los Angeles) operated by A380 VH-OQC diverted to Noumea. Becoming the first A380 to visit the island airport. The crew than ran out of hours requiring 747-400 VH-OJA to ferry a new A380 crew to the island. VH-OQC then proceeded VH-OJA back to Sydney. The use of the 747 seems to be have been because it was due to fly to Avalon so a flight crew was on hand and the aircraft was ready to go once the A380 crew had assembled. VH-OJA continued to Avalon after arrival in Sydney.

25th August 2010 - QANTAS Domestic Expansion Announced.

QANTAS have confirmed that an additional 65 return weekly flights will be added to the Domestic network over the following months. These include a new, seasonal Brisbane - Broome service commencing in April 2011. Five new 737-800s will join the fleet from March 2011.

24th August 2010 - Two Class Boeing 747s Three Class Conversion Confirmed.

QANTAS have confirmed that six of the two class 747 fleet will be re-fitted as three class aircraft with a Premium Economy cabin in order to service the QF21/22 Sydney - Tokyo and QF5/6 Sydney - Singapore - Frankfurt routes. Three Class Tokyo services commence on 10th October and Three Class Frankfurt services from 3rd February 2011.

22nd August 2010 - Regional chaos as QANTASLink Q400s grounded.


QANTAS have grounded five Dash 8 Q400s due to landing gear issues following a maintenance directive from the manufacturer. The affected aircraft are VH-QOC, VH-QOE, VH-QOF, VH-QOI and VH-QOJ. The Queensland network has been most affected with Boeing 737-400s substituting on some Brisbane - Rockhampton flights and QANTASLink Boeing 717’s drafted in for certain Brisbane - Mackay schedules.
