New Font, New, New Roo for VH-QPJ.

QANTAS A330-300 VH-QPJ was revealed at a media event in Sydney this morning with an updated, 2016 version of the QANTAS livery. This features a new QANTAS font, QANTAS titles on the underside, a further redesign of the flying kangaroo tail logo with silver shading and no front legs, a silver band between the red tail and white fuselage and a small, retro roo beneath the cockpit windows.

The new, new roo and font will form the QANTAS brand image going forward from today.

Twelve mainline aircraft remain in QANTAS 1984 livery and these, along with VH-QPJ, will transition to the new 2016 scheme without appearing in the New Roo livery introduced in 2007.

QANTAS B787-9 Dreamliner Configuration Confirmed.

QANTAS today confirmed that its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners will be delivered in a 42J/28W/166Y configuration.

Business Class will feature a slightly modified version of the A330 seat retaining the 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access for all passengers and with a moveable divider between the middle seats to make them more suitable for couples travelling together.

Economy Class will not feature the Thomson Aero Cozy Suite as had been rumoured but a Recaro seat in 3-3-3 configuration with a 12 inch touch screen and a flip down tablet holder Seat pitch will be 32″, however no mention has been made of seat width.

Details of the promised “revolutionary” Premium Economy seat have not been revealed except that it is known that these will be in a 2-3-2 configuration.

QANTAS A330-200 VH-EBF, which has been under maintenance at Brisbane since August 26th, entered service this afternoon operating QF525 Brisbane – Sydney. The aircraft is in 28J/243Y configuration with Panasonic eX3 IFE in Business Class and wifi to Ipad in Economy. As this aircraft was new to Jetstar this was the first QANTAS flight it has operated.

Former Jetstar A330-200 VH-EBF, which has been under maintenance at Paya Lebar since 5th August, positioned Paya Lebar – Brisbane for further maintenance this morning as QF6010. This aircraft was new to Jetstar and this was its first flight under a QF callsign. We understand the aircraft has been repainted into QANTAS New ‘Roo livery but have not yet sighted it to confirm.

QANTAS Confirm Boeing 787-9 Order.

QANTAS today confirmed an order for eight Boeing 787-9s, with four to arrive in the 2017-2018 financial year and four to arrive in the 2018-2019 financial year. This represents three aircraft which are a conversion of Boeing 787-8s originally destined for Jetstar and five conversions of previously held options into firm orders. The aircraft will be used to replace the five remaining non-ER Boeing 747-400s and for network growth. QANTAS have indicated the aircraft will be configured for around 250 seats meaning the increase of capacity over the five Boeing 747-400s will only be in the region of 210 seats,

QANTAS today announced that a further two Two Class Boeing 717-200s will be leased and will commence service in early 2016. These would appear to be former Blue1 machines but this has yet to be confirmed.

QANTAS Boeing 747-438 VH-OJI was withdrawn from service at Sydney this morning after arriving as QF22 from Tokyo Narita. This reduces the total Boeing 747-400/400ER fleet to 11 aircraft and the Boeing 747-400 fleet to five aircraft. This makes the 56J/40W/275Y configuraiton obsolete.

Withdrawn QANTAS B747-400 VH-OJA HARS Preservation Official.

QANTAS officially confirmed that withdrawn Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA will be preserved at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) at Illawarra Regional Airport, Shellharbour. The official handover will take place in early March. The delivery flight from Sydney International Airport to Illawarra Regional Airport will be the first time a Boeing 747 has landed at the regional port. The Qantas pilots operating the final flight will undergo special simulator training to prepare for the delivery and the airline is working with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to finalise approvals for the special landing.

The aircraft is in 38J/265Y configuration with the middle seats in Business Class covered with a table to make a usable 34J/265Y configuration. This brings the active QANTAS A330-200 fleet up to 16 aircraft.

QANTAS Boeing 737-838 VH-XZP commenced its delivery flight today routing Boeing Field – Honolulu – Nadi – Sydney – Brisbane as QF6024. The aircraft is in 12J/156Y Boeing Sky Interior configuration, special RetroRoo livery and is named James Strong. The aircraft brings the QANTAS B737-800 fleet up to 67 aircraft and the QANTAS Group B737-800 fleet up to 75 aircraft. This delivery marks the completion of Boeing 737-800 deliveries from all current orders. The aircraft will be displayed to media at Sydney before continuing to Brisbane on 19th November.
