31st December 2010 - Boeing 747-400 VH-OJQ on Antarctic Duty.

Boeing 747-438 VH-OJQ operated this years traditional New Year’s Eve Antarctic Charter operating as QF2903/2904.







22nd December 2010 - A380 VH-OQB Returns.

Airbus A380 VH-OQB arrived into Sydney today routing Frankfurt - Singapore - Sydney as QF6020. This aircraft is expected to enter service today.


Current A380 fleet status is:

VH-OQA - Singapore - awaiting repairs.

VH-OQB - Sydney - ready to re-enter service.

VH-OQC - Sydney - awaiting new engines.

VH-OQD - In Service.

VH-OQE - In Service.

VH-OQF - In Service.

VH-OQG - In Service.


In service aircraft are still operating at reduced thrust and are thus not operating on Los Angeles routes.

22nd December 2010 - 747-400 Singapore turnbacks.

2 Class Boeing 747-436 VH-OJJ operated QF6 Frankfurt - Singapore on 20th December but turned around in Singapore to operate a delayed QF9 to London Heathrow. The aircraft is due to operate QF30 to Hong Kong and Melbourne on 23rd. 4 Class 747-436 VH-OJT operated QF9 Melbourne - Singapore on 21st turning around to operate QF6 to Sydney on 22nd. The swap was to get increased Economy Class uplift into and out of London.

21st December 2010 - Scheduled Heathrow Operations.

QF31 operated by A380 VH-OQG is due at 1050.

QF32 operated by A380 VH-OQE departed at 1214.

QF30 operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJM departed at 1233.

QF32D operated by A380 VH-OQG departed at 2308.

QF2 operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJL departed at 2314.

All movements have now been pieced together and appear on the Jet Tracker.

20th December 2010 - Scheduled Heathrow Operations.

QF1 from 18th December operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJH is due at 2125.

QF1 from 19th December operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJL is due at 2155.

QF31 from 18th December operated by A380 VH-OQD is due at 1800.

QF31 from 19th December operated by A380 VH-OQE is due at 2350.

QF9 from 18th December operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJQ and arriving from Bangkok is due 2005.

QF9 from 19th December operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJM is due at 2245.

QF29 from 19th December is cancelled. This would have been operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJN. The aircraft operated as far as Hong Kong and then returned to Melbourne as QF30.

QF29 from 20th December operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OEJ is due at 1515. This turned around and departed as QF30 to Hong Kong and Melbourne.

QF1 departing Sydney operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJG terminated at Bangkok and will not continue through to London.

20th December 2010 - A380 VH-OQG enters service.

Airbus A380 VH-OQG entered service today operating QF31 Sydney - Singapore - London Heathrow.

13th December 2010 - QANTAS acquires Network Aviation.

QANTAS has announced that is has purchased Perth based Network Aviation. The airline currently operates two 100 seat Fokker 100 and six 30 seat Embraer Brasilia EMB-120ER aircraft on “fly-in fly-out” FIFO operations for the resources sector in Western Australia. No word has been given on livery or future operational plans.







12th December 2010 - Airbus A380 VH-OQD returns to Australia.

Airbus A380 VH-OQD arrived into Sydney this morning positioning from Los Angeles as QF6022. Thus the current status of the A380 fleet is:

VH-OQA - Singapore - out of service.

VH-OQB - Frankfurt - out of service.

VH-OQC - Sydney - out of service.

VH-OQD - Sydney - out of service.

VH-OQE - in service restricted to QF31/32.

VH-OQF - in service restricted to QF31/32

VH-OQG/H/I - Toulouse - awaiting handover.

11th December 2010 - A330-200 VH-EBH operates QF11 via Auckland.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBH operated QF11 Sydney - Los Angeles today routing via Auckland. The aircraft will operate QF108 Los Angeles - Sydney via the same routing on the return.

8th December 2010 - A380 VH-OQG not on delivery.

Airbus A380 VH-OQG was not delivered to QANTAS amid more Rolls Royce engine issues. A possible faulty oil tube caused the flight to be cancelled. Although delays to delivery have been described as “short” no delivery date has been announced. QANTAS was hoping to have four A380s in service before Christmas and more schedule chaos is now expected.

8th December 2010 - A380 VH-OQG on delivery.

Airbus A380 VH-OQG is on delivery from Toulouse routing Toulouse - Singapore - Sydney as QF6028 and due into Sydney at 1850 on Thursday 9th December.

7th December 2010 - Air Tahiti Nui operate for QANTAS.

Air Tahiti Nui Airbus A330-300 F-OLOV operated today’s QF11 Sydney - Los Angeles and QF12 Los Angeles - Sydney on a wet lease basis. The aircraft will also operate these flights on 9th December.

6th December 2010 - QANTAS Freight B767-300F to arrive.

QANTAS today announced that it will begin to use a dedicated Boeing 767-300 freighter on trans-Tasman services from February 2011. The leased aircraft will be registered VH-EFR (c/n 33510) and was formerly with ANA Cargo as JA603F. It features a side loading freight door to the main deck and will wear a QANTAS Freight livery with a plain red tail in the current style and QANTAS Freight titles in the current font. The wet-lease on the current Boeing 767-200 freighter N761CX will end.

5th December 2010 - 767-300 VH-OGU in loss of separation incident.

Boeing 767-300 VH-OGU operating flight QF438 Melbourne - Sydney took off shortly after a Virgin Blue Boeing 737-700 operating DJ-331 Melbourne - Brisbane. Approximately 4 minutes after take-off separation between the two aircraft reduced to 1.9 nautical miles laterally and 300 feet vertically thus a serious loss of separation occurred which is under investigated by the ATSB. QANTAS have stated that the 767 crew were in full compliance with air traffic control instructions and had the Virgin Blue aircraft in visual contact at all times.

4th December 2010 - QF9/10 Singapore turnbacks.

Boeing 747-438 VH-OJM operating QF10 from London Heathrow did not proceed to Melbourne as normal but turned back to operate QF9 to London Heathrow. Meanwhile sister VH-OJU which arrived as  QF9 from Melbourne turned back to operated QF10 to Melbourne.


19th December 2010  - Heathrow on the move.

QF32 of 18th November took off at 1216 local time from London Heathrow operated by A380 VH-OQF.

Meanwhile QF29 of 18th November operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJN did depart Hong Kong for London Heathrow and then returned to Hong Kong.

18th December 2010 - Northbound London flights wait in Far East.

With London Heathrow not due to open to inbound flights on Sunday 19th QANTAS took the decision to hold the northbound flights in the Far East. QF1 Sydney - Bangkok - London Heathrow operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJH remains in Bangkok, QF31 Sydney - Singapore - London Heathrow operated by A380 VH-OQD remains in Singapore while QF9 Melbourne - Singapore - London Heathrow operated by Boeing 747-400 VH-OJQ departed Singapore and positioned to Bangkok. All flights are expected to be on the ground for a minimum of 24 hours.


With the four aircraft stuck at London Heathrow plus these three aircraft now delayed 24 hours it means that seven of the combined thirty strong B744/A380 fleet will arrive into Australia at least 24 hours late which will have further effects on the already stretched schedule.

18th December 2010 - A330-200 VH-EBP enters service.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBP entered service today operating the QF581/582 Sydney - Perth rotation.

18th December 2010 - QANTAS jets caught in Heathrow closure.

London Heathrow closed due to snow today at approximately 1200 local and will not open until Sunday 19th. Lunchtime flights QF30 and QF32 did not get away today and neither will the evening flights QF2 and QF10.

The early morning arrivals into Heathrow were Boeing 747-400 VH-OJF on QF9 from Melbourne and Singapore, Boeing 747-400 VH-OJS on QF1 from Sydney and Bangkok and Airbus A380 VH-OQF on QF31 from Sydney and Singapore. The lunchtime QF29 arrival from Melbourne and Hong Kong operated by VH-OJT diverted into Frankfurt for fuel but continued onto Heathrow.

18th December 2010 - A380 VH-OQG arrives.

Airbus A380 VH-OQG arrived in Sydney this morning on delivery as QF6028 routing Toulouse - Singapore - Sydney.


Current A380 status is:

VH-OQA - Singapore - out of service awaiting engines and wing repair.

VH-OQB - Frankfurt - out of service awaiting engines.

VH-OQC - Sydney - out of service awaiting engines.

VH-OQD - In service restricted to QF31/32.

VH-OQE - In service restricted to QF31/32.

VH-OQF - In service restricted to QF31/32.

VH-OQG - Sydney - undergoing pre-service entry checks and modifications.

16th December 2010 - A380 VH-OQD back in service and VH-OQG on the way.

Airbus A380 VH-OQD re-entered service today operating QF31 Sydney - Singapore - London Heathrow. Meanwhile VH-OQG began it’s delivery flight as QF6028 routing Toulouse - Singapore - Sydney. VH-OQH has still to be accepted by the airline and remains in Toulouse.

16th December 2010 - Airbus A330-200 VH-EBP arrives.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBP arrived in Sydney on delivery as QF6020 today routing Toulouse - Singapore - Sydney. This aircraft has the same Domestic interior as VH-EBO with 2-3-2 seating in Business Class and gate to gate AVOD.
