29th September 2011 - Santiago Schedule.

The schedule for the new Sydney - Santiago de Chile service to commence on 26 March 2012 has now been released and is as follows:

QF27 Sydney 1045 - Santiago de Chile 0955. Monday, Wednesday, Saturday.

QF28 Santiago de Chile 1335 - Sydney 1755+1. Monday, Wednesday, Saturday.

Flights will operate with Boeing 747-400s.

29th September 2011 - A380 VH-OQJ Flies Domestic Passengers.

Airbus A380 VH-OQJ flew in service as QF6161 Sydney - Melbourne today in order to clear passengers caught by the flight cancellations. This is normally a positioning flight on Thursdays. Other than occasions where fog or ash has caused A380s to put down in an Australian port prior to flying on to their scheduled destination this is the first use of an A380 on Domestic operations.

Two additional Sydney - Melbourne flights were also operated by QANTASLink Dash 8-Q400 turboprops.

29th September 2011 - Flight Cancellations:

28th September 2011 - Melbourne Weather Chaos.

Severe thunderstorms caused Melbourne airport to be closed on three occasions today leading to the following flight cancellations:

28th September 2011 - 717s for Brisbane.

With the arrival of two former Mexicana Click Boeing 717s for QANTASLink next year Brisbane will receive an allocation of two 717s.

In other QANTASLink Queensland news a Townsville - Moranbah service is to be launched from October. A further Dash 8-Q400 will enter service from Brisbane from October which will see services increase on the Brisbane - Moranbah, Brisbane - Emerald and Cairns - Weipa routes. This will also release a Dash 8-300 to increase services on the Brisbane - Roma and Brisbane - Charleville routes.  

27th September 2011 - ZK-JTQ Still Going.

JetConnect Boeing 737-476 ZK-JTQ appeared in service again today operating the QF50/QF55 Auckland - Sydney rotation.

25th September 2011 - ZK-JTQ Soldiers On.

JetConnect Boeing 737-476 ZK-JTQ appeared in service again today operating the QF124/QF123 Auckland - Brisbane rotation.

25th September 2011 - Flight Cancellation.

QF569 Sydney - Perth is cancelled today.

23rd September 2011 - VH-EBP QF802 Birdstrike.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBP operating QF802 Perth - Melbourne returned to Perth after encountering a bird strike shortly after take off. The flight departed around 12 hours later with sister A330-200 VH-EBO. QF648 Perth - Melbourne on 24 September was operated by Boeing 767-338ER VH-OGT rather than the scheduled A330-200.

21st September 2011 - VH-VXB Re-enters Service.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VXB Yananyi Dreaming undertook another Melbourne - Melbourne test flight as QF6131 today and then re-entered service as QF448 Melbourne - Sydney.

21st September 2011 - VH-VZS Enters Service.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VZS entered service today as QF438 Melbourne - Sydney.

6th September 2011 - VH-OEJ QF18 Operates via Auckland.

QF18 Buenos Aires - Sydney (depart Buenos Aires 5 September) operated via Auckland today in connection with the Rugby World Cup.

7th September 2011 - VH-OQJ Returns to Service.

Airbus A380 VH-OQJ, out of service at London Heathrow since 4 September returned to service this evening operating QF10 to Singapore and Melbourne.

7th September 2011 - VH-OQF operates QF10D.

Airbus A380 VH-OQF operated last night’s delayed QF10 as QF10D this morning having arrived at London Heathrow as QF31.

6th September 2011 - VH-OQJ Still Out of Service.

Yesterday’s QF10 London Heathrow - Singapore - Melbourne was operated this morning as QF10D by Airbus A380 VH-OQH which had arrived into London as QF9. Tonight’s service  is also delayed until tomorrow morning indicating that VH-OQJ will not be repaired today.

6th September 2011 - VH-VZR Enters Service.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VZR entered service today as QF406 Melbourne - Sydney. This aircraft features AVOD throughout.

5th September 2011 - VH-OQB Operates Delayed QF10.

A380 VH-OQB turned around from the inbound QF31 to operate last night’s delayed QF10 from London Heathrow - Singapore - Melbourne as QF10D this morning. Tonight’s QF10 will also be delayed until 0930 tomorrow indicating that VH-OQJ will not be repaired and able to return to service today.

6th September 2011 - VH-QPH returns to Australia.

Airbus A330-300 VH-QPH, out of service at Shanghai since 2 September, returned to Australia today operating a daytime Shanghai - Sydney flight as QF130D.

5th September 2011 - QF51 finally heads to Mumbai.

Airbus A330-300 VH-QPD finally got Saturday’s QF51 underway from Singapore to Mumbai today as QF51D. VH-QPF returned to service this morning as QF72 Singapore - Perth.  

4th September 2011 - VH-OQJ Heathrow Technical Issue.

Airbus A380 VH-OQJ arrived into London Heathrow today as QF31 but was unable to depart as scheduled as QF10 to Singapore and Melbourne. The flight has been re-scheduled for 0930 on Monday 5 September by which time both VH-OQG and VH-OQB will have arrived and be able to operate the flight back to Australia.

4th September 2011 - QF25 Cancellation.

With no arriving QF26 Los Angeles - Auckland this morning due to the technical issue suffered by A330-200 VH-EBI on 2 September, there was no aircraft in Auckland to operate the QF25 to Los Angeles and the service was therefore cancelled. VH-EBI was parked overnight last night at Los Angeles and took up its scheduled departure from there today as QF107 to New York JFK.

3rd September 2011 - VH-OEF QF17 Auckland Technical Diversion.

QF17 Sydney - Buenos Aires operated by Boeing 747-438ER VH-OEF has diverted to Auckland due to engine vibrations. The aircraft was attended to in the Air New Zealand hangars and departed again at 1300 on Sunday 4 September.

3rd September 2011 - VH-VZP QF703 Goes Walkabout.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VZP operating QF703 Cairns - Melbourne departed on a normal track from Cairns and was close to Barcaldine when it diverted to Rockhampton. The aircraft was on the ground for almost four hours indicting a technical problem before it set off for Sydney. Ground time in Sydney was only 30 minutes which does not indicate any further problems. It is likely the original crew would have gone out of hours if continuing to Melbourne and so a crew change was undertaken in Sydney.

3rd September 2011 - VH-QPF Singapore Technical Problem.

Airbus A330-300 VH-QPF arrived into Singapore as QF81 from Adelaide but its next scheduled flight, QF51 to Mumbai, has been delayed indefinitely. This indicates that there is a technical problem with the aircraft.

3rd September 2011 - VH-EBI leaves JFK as QF8108.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBI, which suffered a technical issue at JFK yesterday departed this evening as QF8108 to Los Angeles.

2nd September 2011 - VH-QPH Shanghai Technical Issue.

Airbus A330-300 VH-QPH arrived into Shanghai today as QF129 from Sydney but the return QF130 has been cancelled indicating a technical problem with the aircraft.

2nd September 2011 - VH-EBI JFK Technical Issue.

Airbus A330-200 VH-EBI arrived into New York JFK today as QF107 from Los Angeles but the return QF108 and subsequent QF26 Los Angeles - Auckland have been cancelled, indicating a technical issue with the aircraft.

1st September 2011 - VH-OGF Withdrawn.

Boeing 767-338ER VH-OGF operated its final QANTAS flight today as QF764 Adelaide - Sydney.

1st September 2011 - VH-VZD revealed in Optus Livery.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VZD was unveiled at Sydney today in a special livery to advertise a deal with Optus where QANTAS Frequent Flyers can earn two points for every A$1 spent with Optus. The aircraft re-entered service as QF926 Sydney - Cairns.

1st September 2011 - VH-OJP QF94 Sydney Diversion.

QF94 Los Angeles - Melbourne (depart Los Angeles 30 August) operated by Boeing 747-438 VH-OJP diverted via Sydney this morning due to fog in Melbourne.

20th September 2011 - VH-VXB Test Flight.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VXB, under maintenance at Melbourne since 27 July 2011, undertook a short Melbourne - Melbourne test flight as QF6112 today. The flight reached 15,000ft flying a Figure 8 course over Ballarat, Warrnambool and Bendigo. It is confirmed that the aircraft retains its Yananyi Dreaming livery.

20th September 2011 - Strike Cancellations.

19th September 2011 - Sydney Domestic Security Breach.

A security breach at Sydney Domestic caused all passengers to need re-screening causing huge delays to Domestic operations and the following cancellations:

18th September 2011 - 3 Class 747 Avalon Maintenance Swap.

3 Class Boeing 747-438 VH-OJE positioned Avalon - Brisbane as QF6196 and took up service as QF15 Brisbane - Los Angeles. Sister VH-OJA arrived into Brisbane as QF52 from Singapore and positioned to Avalon as QF6195.

15th September 2011 - VH-VZS on Delivery.

Boeing 737-838 VH-VZS departed Boeing Field today on delivery using the usual QF6024 callsign. The final route was Boeing Field - Honolulu (overnight) - Nadi - Sydney - Melbourne.

14th September 2011 - I-Pad trials to Commence.

QANTAS today announced that commencing in October it to trial the provision of I-pads to all passengers on a Boeing 767-338ER. The I-pads will feature a version of the Q Entertainment content found on IFE equipped aircraft. The trial will be on a Domest configuration aircraft. The use of I-pads was successfully trialled by British Airways on a Boeing 777-236ER and I-pads are now standard for First Class passengers on BA’s non-AVOD equipped 777 fleet. The difference between the BA and QANTAS systems is that the BA system has the I-pads pre-loaded with content whereas the QANTAS system will have a central server connecting wirelessly to the I-pads.

14th September 2011 - VH-OEE QF29 Hong Kong Return.

Boeing 747-438ER VH-OEE operating QF29 arrived into Hong Kong this morning but five hours into the onward service to London Heathrow the aircraft returned to Hong Kong . The flight will now depart at 0600 on Thursday 15 September as QF29D. As a result QF2 London Heathrow - Bangkok - Sydney scheduled to depart this evening has been delayed until Thursday morning 15 September using Boeing 747-438ER VH-OEH inbound off QF9 from Melbourne and Singapore.

13th September 2011 - VH-OEE back from Maintenance.

Boeing 747-438ER VH-OEE arrived into Melbourne this morning as QF6024, seemingly from Singapore following maintenance in the Far East. The aircraft re-entered service as QF29 Melbourne - Hong Kong - London. We cannot yet confirm whether the aircraft has been repainted into the new QANTAS livery.

12th September 2011 - Red Q name for Premium Asia Airline?

QANTAS is known to be attempting to secure trademarks on the names Red Q, Red Q Executive Express, RedSky and OneAsia for its premium Asia based airline. Red Q is thought to be the most likely contender at this time.

12th September 2011 - VH-OJN to Avalon Maintenance.

Boeing 747-438 VH-OJN positioned Sydney - Avalon today as QF6195.

11th September 2011 - VH-OEF QF18 Auckland Fuel Stop.

Boeing 747-438ER VH-OEF operating QF18 Buenos Aires - Sydney (depart Buenos Aires 10 September) made an unscheduled stop in Auckland for fuel arriving into Sydney extremely close to the airport curfew time.

11th September 2011 - VH-OGG positions to Singapore.

Boeing 767-338ER VH-OGG positioned Sydney - Singapore as QF6023 today. Although sequentially this aircraft should be the next 767 to be withdrawn it was in full QANTAS livery when it made the flight. Normally withdrawn aircraft have all QANTAS branding removed before departing Australia.

8th September 2011 - VH-OGM back in Traffic in Domestic Configuration.

Boeing 767-338ER VH-OGM re-entered service as QF507 Brisbane - Sydney today having been under maintenance at Brisbane since 22nd July. The aircraft has been reconfigured as 30J/224Y Domestic configuration.
